Environmental Compliance Subcommittee provides updates on renewals and extensions of the EU laws.

Atlanta - ECIA’s GIPC Environmental Compliance Subject Matter Expert Group has published a document to update members about recent developments regarding Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) exemptions that may affect product categories across the electronics industry. These updates include renewals, modifications, and the introduction of more specific sub-entries, impacting compliance timelines for manufacturers, distributors, and customers.

“Several of the provisions of the RoHS directive have been updated recently,” explained Christine Wolnik, ECIA Vice President of Industry Practices. “The GIPC’s SME on Environmental Compliance is constantly monitoring these developments and decided now is a good time to issue an advisory to help members stay on top of the issues that impact their businesses. This document includes links and suggestions on what to do next.”

The European Union has passed EU rules restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment to protect the environment and public health. The GIPC Advisory includes a Quick Reference Table, and ‘What’s New’ section; members can link directly to the EU Commission’s Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive website to learn more.

The RoHS Member Advisory can be found here.
